Maria, originally from Brazil, has demonstrated remarkable resilience and determination throughout her life. She completed her Law School education in São Paulo over a period of six years, a feat she accomplished while raising two children on her own. In 2007, Maria embarked on a new chapter in the United States, where she initially worked as a domestic worker for six years.


Her journey took a transformative turn as she began to channel her energies into advocating for the immigrant community, becoming a pillar of support and a voice for change. As a Community Activist, Maria played a pivotal role in the enactment of the Domestic Workers Bill of Rights in Connecticut in 2015, a testament to her commitment and influence. Her journey from a law student and single mother to a respected activist underscores her unwavering dedication to justice and community empowerment.
